Gladiatorial Arena

This picture follows on from my earlier article about my insane idea to write my own rules for gladiatorial combat. This Arena was at Dragonmeet 2003 and the game played in it was a cut down version of the 3rd Edition DandD Rules. I doubt if I'll be building anything quite as elaborate as this but its a good picture to inspire me to finish my rules and try them out.

I didn't make this! - Gladiator gem using DandD 3e rules from Dragonmeet 2003

One thing I will say is that I'm in favour of using a hex mat rather than a grid like that in this arena.

  1. Only last month I attended a lecture on the archiology of Roman arenas in the UK built during the Roman period. Most were much more simple in their design, in fact audience entry on some was up a hill and over the top.

  2. If you want some inspiration for further work, look here

This is a very well preserved Roman city called Segobriga, unfortunately far from the typical touiristical routes, but only 1h30´ from Madrid. Worth visiting

Also you can have some inspiration in this Spanish blogger site

  6. Lovely model, plenty of inspiration for your build. Agreed hex's would look and play much better.

  8. The 'Rejects' do gladiators; what could go wrong? You've just got to do this Lee.

  9. That looks very cool. I never really got hooked on the gladiator thing, but it`s hard to argue the eye candy is top notch.
