New Year Resolutions for Wargamers

First off I'd like to wish all my readers and viewers a very Happy New Year.. lets hope 2021 is an improvement on last year! So for my first Quarantined Wargamer video of the new year, I thought it would be an appropriate time to talk about Resolutions. All sorts of folk make them (normal people and wargamers alike!) and we all struggle to keep them. So in this video, I briefly discuss some of the common resolutions made by wargamers, how to keep at them and what mine are for the year to come.

As always I'd love yo hear what you think. Have you had any notable successes with your resolutions in the past, or even some notable failures (we tend to learn more from these!). Please leave your stories in the comments below, or over on my channel. Until next week, keep safe and keep rolling high!

  1. I must admit to never doing New Year resolutions. That goes double for wargaming. I take life and wargaming as it comes. No stress, no huge disappointments. Just a steady progression.

  2. Happy New Year! No resolutions for me. I have far more important things to battle. I only hope that there will be a time I can paint and game again in 2021. But when that will happen I don't know.

    1. I'm trying to be optimistic but I think 2021 will be almost as challenging as 2020 so I can fully understand.

  3. Happy New Year to you Lee. 2020 was a really shit year, reading your Blog and watching your videos has been a real relief/distraction for me. I look forward to following your adventures this year :)

  4. Great video! I'm a chronic goal setter (not so much of an achiever). My favorite time of the year on the wargame blogs is the end of the year reviews and the upcoming year plans. I never worry about whether I "fail", because even just the effort of contemplation itself is worth it.

    Good luck with your goals!

    1. I've always been a believer in failure as a learning tool!

  5. Big Lee,
When I have a plan for the year, it goes pretty well. Last year no plan and the hobby work was haphazard though I discovered 2 new projects for 2021.

    1. A plan, to-do list, resolutions, or whatever you want to call it, can help to focus effort and produce result. I'm always using lists, plans and schedules to keep productivity going during the nine months that the painting Challenge isn't on.

  6. A great series of videos. On the topic of new years resolutions I found this blog post which I saved. Its a humorous take on trying not to achieve too much

  7. Ah resolutions Lee. As you get older these change into a bucket list which can be carried over each year. But resolutions seem always to suffer by the second week in January. Hence my weight increases and my biscuit intake also increases. Best of luck with all your plans.
