Skirmish 2012

Yesterday morning I nipped over the QE2 Bridge south of the river to attend Skirmish 2012. This is a small show held in a Grammer School in Sidcup and while not big it is varied and interesting. Ostensibly a Toy Soldier show there are always several wargames and traders to keep things interesting.

I always enjoy the informal atmosphere which is why for the last couple of years I have been taking my youngest daughter along (got to get her training program started early!). We had a great time this year as there were some excellent display games to see and plenty of traders selling toy's rather than miniatures which means she was able to spend some of her pocket money. In fact by the end of the day she had spent more money than I had!

The other thing I like about this show is the opportunity to meet up with fellow gamers and bloggers. I met up with The Angry Lurker and Postie but I was also introduced to David Crook (A Wargaming Odyssey) and Bob Cordery (Wargaming Miscellany).

  1. Am always jealous when you guys post up these conventions.. even the small ones have more traders and demo games than any that we have over here.. mostly cause we have only 1 real trader, and only 2 conventions a year.. and both are mostly RPG/LARP induced.
    Great shots once more.

  4. It is an interesting little show because its not 100% wargame oriented like other shows. There's a bit more variety amongst the traders and lots of little bargains to be had. I never spend much at this show for that very reason but I always enjoy chatting to the traders and friends that I meet.

I bought another copy of the FOW mini rulebook for my Brother-in-law and picked up a great DVD (D-Day to Paris) for just £3. I was hoping to buy the new hardback version of FOW rules but the trader that I thought would have it had forgotten to bring it!

  7. Thanks Lee I could not make it this time. So was good to see the games that were put on. Numbers look down on last few times judging by the background shots.

    1. It did seem a little quieter than previous years although there seemed to be a steady stream of visitors coming in during the morning.

  11. The games that were there looked quite good. Were they using 5150 rules for the Bug Hunt perchance?
