Distractions and Prevarication

I'm easily distracted and need little or no excuse to prevaricate while working on a large project. Such has been the fate of my US Parachute Rifle Company. I started this project with a big fanfare back in November and it's still sitting unfinished on my desk! I've not been completely idle but I have found it harder to make progress with this project than I have to start new stuff. Indeed a whole succession of other projects have crossed my desk in the last few months.

I'm nearly finished a couple of minor projects and I hope to have some pictures of at least one of them up tomorrow. Then I really really ought to get on with my airborne Company. I'll be taking them into work one Platoon at a time in the hope that breaking the task down into smaller sections will make it seem less daunting. That's the Plan anyway, but as the old military axiom goes "no plan survives contact with the enemy"... or maybe in my case it should be "no plan survives contact with my lead mountain".

  1. You can do it! Pack them up into the mobile painting unit and away you go! Just think how great they will look when they are done! This of course from a chap who is now painting dinosaur hunters when he should be painting Indian Sepoys! ;)

  2. Humm... why is it that this situation sounds sooooo familar to me???? May be is that Spanish Civil War project that I decided to attack in January... or the Napoleonic 28mm project of last summer (and only half way through)... in the meantime I'm painting US Vietnam gronards...

  4. I find doing one platoon/brigade/battalion/squad/whatever at a time helps me get through 'stuck' projects more dependably. There's nothing more daunting than looking at 250 un-painted figures on the table....25, sure I can bang those out in a couple evenings....

At least that's how I battle the Adult ADD. I reward myself between units with a unit of something I'm more motivated to work on. One for me, one for the horde, one for me, one for the horde. FOR THE HORDE!

  5. I am sympathetic to your predicament. I often lose direction as something else near the painting table catches my eye.

  6. I often lose focus as a project nears completion and will often habe small units awaiting the paintbrush long after I've moved onto something else

  7. I well understand your situation as I'm victim of this myself! However, I recommend just popping in the trusty old Band of Brothers DVD and you'll get your mojo back.;-)

  8. I know what that feels like. Got a High Elf and Skaven Army staring accusingly at me from about 2 years ago, and now I'm doing Zombies and contemplating FIW.

Thank you for leaving a comment. I always try to reply as soon as I can, so why not pop back later and continue the conversation. In the meantime, keep rolling high!
