Where do you buy your books?

Where do you buy your books from? At least a third of my collection was picked up from 2nd hand or charity bookshops. This is a great way to find out of print books and discover new and tempting subjects for wargaming.

  1. To be honest Lee, I gladly ever buy a book these days. With all the uniform info you could ever require available free via the Internet, generally, I only read books that are histories of various campaigns, and these, I get from our excellent library system. As I live in Auckland, with a population of over 1.5m, virtually any book you can think of, can be obtained with a day or twos wait. Currently I am reading The Anarchy by William Dalrymple, about the East India Company in the seventeenth, eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and prior to that, it was Antony Bevos history of the Spanish Civil War...both courtesy of the library system. I have a six by four cupboard full of books mostly acquired thirty years ago, the majority of which, I have not read completely, so I don't think I need to buy any more!

  2. With COVID and lockdowns, I realised the value of the small local neighbour shops in supplying groceries and daily staples; and after going back to normal, I decided to keep supporting them reducing my shopping in large hypermarkets. Independent bookshops are also a key player in keeping local culture life in the neighbourhood, so I buy all my books in my local bookshop, where we also started a monthly book club gathering after COVID. The book offering is of course not as great as in the big book chains stores, not to say in Amazon; but I can order my books to my local shop and get them in 2-3 days. Foreign language books I buy in electronic format usually from the publisher or from Amazon.

Thank you for leaving a comment. I always try to reply as soon as I can, so why not pop back later and continue the conversation. In the meantime, keep rolling high!
