While you Paint

The latest episode of The Quarantined Wargamer was released on Friday and in it, I discuss a few of the possibilities for doubling productivity while we paint. Why brush in silence when you could be doing so much more?

In all likelihood, you already listen to music or podcasts while you paint, but some people don't. I've even spoken to a few people that say they paint in silence, and that seems like a terrible waste of possibility. I discuss just a few ideas but maybe you have some others. Please share your thoughts and views either in the comments below or on my YouTube Channel.

I hope you enjoy the video and, as always I hope you are keeping well. Stay safe folks!

  1. I prefer to paint in silence as it helps me to concentrate. Also my job used to be in a workshop so peace and quiet was welcome after all the noise of work. Whilst I paint I do thing of other things and find it helps me formulate ideas etc for other gaming related activities. So silence can be beneficial.

    1. Fair point. A bit of 'finkin time' is always useful. Me, I'd just wander off to Narnia if I didn't try to structure my thoughts.

  2. Interesting episode, Lee.

For me, one solution does not fit all situations. Sometimes, silence is called for while I mentally wrestle with some problem or need to unwind in silence. Other times, music is the answer. Public radio, yes. Podcasts, yes. Audio books, yes. Audio lectures and courses, yes and yes.

The important goal is to keep the paint flowing.

    1. Absolutely, whatever you personally find helpful. I find public radio, with yabbering DJ's and lots of adverts, far too distracting, but other people aren't bothered by that.

  3. What's wrong with painting in silence? It is not a waste of a possibility, it's a grabbing of an opportunity. It's a release from the noise of work, the family and everything around. It can allow an immersive and calming experience. It also gives time for the mind to tick over and be creative rather than be continually alert. In short, one could argue that listening to music, radio, or a podcast is a waste of a possibility.
    Nice post Lee.

    1. This leads into another subject I may chat about in a future episode... painting as meditation. Its the sort of discipline that lends itself really well to good metal health practice. I personally find having something to listen to very relaxing...and it drowns out my noisy neighbours!

  4. Listening to the radio - Radio 5 or Radio 4 extra or talking books (particularly Pratchett).

    1. I've been listening to a history program called 'In our Time' on Radio 4 with Melvin Bragg. Very interesting, an eclectic range of subjects and some very interesting guests. Worth checking out if you've not listened to it before.

Thank you for leaving a comment. I always try to reply as soon as I can, so why not pop back later and continue the conversation. In the meantime, keep rolling high!
