Spitfire & Hurricane Memorial Museum

Well I'm back from our short (very short) holiday to Herne Bay and North Kent. It was nice to get away but the problem with a three day trip like this is that it's over almost as soon as it starts. Even so I managed to squeeze in three museums of interest and over the next couple of day's I'll post some of my pictures. First off is the excellent Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum at Manston. This small collection is crammed full of interesting exhibits - as well as a fantastically restored Spitfire and Hurricane - and you can easily while away a couple of hours here.

Hawker Hurricane IIc
Pilot Memorial
BSA (Birmingham Small Arms Company) M20 Motorcycle c 1939
WWII Flying Helmet, Goggles, Earphones and Microphone
Kreighoff Rheinmetall MG.15  7.92mm (Use in various German aircraft)
Iron Cross was awarded to all ranks of the Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe & Kriegsmarine to recognise acts of bravery, heroism and leadership.
Bomb Alley, Kent 1944
Small scale experimental version of 'Upkeep' Bouncing Bomb recovered from the foreshore at Reculver in Kent
Supermarine Spitfire MK XVI (LF)
Supermarine Spitfire MK XVI (LF)
Dogfight
Supermarine Spitfire MK XVI (LF)
Medals: DSC; 1939-45 Star; Atlatic Star; Africa Star; Defence Medal; War Service Medal; RNVR Officers Decoration; and Cadet Forces Clasp
The range and quality of exhibits makes this little museum well worth a visit if you get a chance. Tomorrow I'll post some pictures from the RAF Manston History Museum which is opposite and makes this a great double act for anyone interested in military aviation history.
