6mm FOW Afrika Shutzenkompanie

I have finally finished painting up an Afrika Schützenkompanie (Rifle Company) for my 6mm Flames of War North Africa 1942 project. This has spent a long time on the workbench but I got a lot of work done over the weekend and was finally able to finish them off. Most of the models are by Heroics and Ros although a few (including the Kubelwagens) are by C-in-C. 

Afrika Shutzenkompanie

This fully motorised Company consists of a Company HQ (2x Command SMG teams, 2x MG34 HMG teams, 2x Kfz 70 trucks and a Kubelwagen) and three Schützen Platoons (1x Cmd MG team with Kubelwagen, 6x MG teams, 1x 8cm GW34 mortar team, 2x 5cm PaK38 gun teams with 2x Sd Kfz 10 halftracks and 4x Kfz 70 trucks for infantry transport) for a total point cost of just 975pts.

Rated as Confident Veterans this company packs quite a punch and with the right support units attached it will no doubt prove to be a thorn in the side of my British forces. 

6mm Mosque and Grain Store

These two great little models are by Leven Miniatures and are part of their 6mm Middle East range of buildings. The Mosque comes with a seperate square minaret which gives this building a bit of flexibility. These are cast in ivory polyester resin which means the finished models are rebust but with fine detail. As with all resin they need to be lightly scrubbed in a soapy solution to clean the surfaces of any mould release residue. Once cleaned they are easy to paint and unlike some resin buildings I have encountered, this material doesn't soak up paint like a sponge. 

6mm Dug-In Markers

At last I have something finished to show off. I bought a load of the Sandbag models from Leven Miniatures a few weeks ago and I have finally got round to incorporating them into some models. These can be used as Dug-In markers for desert troops.

I chose to mount the sandbags on a base rather than building wrap around markers like those used for 15mm figures. The models were far too flimsy to stand up to rigiourus gameplay and mounting them just made the finished marker much more durable.

These markers are ideal for showing which of your teams are dug-in. Also during assaults when your troops may leave thier foxholes to finish off the enemy you can leave the markers in place for your troops to return to.

Three Inch Brush

Posties Rejects gathered for a game at the weekend. Unfortunately I couldn't attend as I had made a prior promise to get a load of painting done. So instead of rolling terrible dice and having a laugh in Posties Shed-o-War I spent the whole weekend painting...  with a 3" brush. Yes, my promises to get some DIY done in the house finally came home to roost and I had to make good on my word. This weekend I was just focusing on the entrance Porch but despite being the smallest room in the house it took the best part of a week to clear & prep and the whole weekend to plaster and paint. Still, the job is done now. I've earned a bucket load of Brownie Points with Mrs BigLee and we've cleared another corner of the house of stuff we should have thrown out years ago (It's amazing how much detritus accumulates in the house over the course of 21 years of marriage!). 

So that's it really. Nothing else to report. Despite having a painting to-do list as long as my arm I never got near any of my projects this weekend, so I don't actually have anything to post about. No doubt this 'non-event post' will elicit a grumpy comment from the Angry Lurker but I don't mind.* Come to think of it, maybe he should change his Screen Name and become the Grumpy Lurker instead.
