Remembrance Day

At 11 am on 11 November 1918 the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. To mark this moment, all across the country (and in many countries around the world), there will be a 2 minute silence at 11am today as a mark of respect.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

['For the Fallen' by Laurence Binyon]

  1. I still have the poppy I picked up from an old Canadian vet in Toronto about 15 or so years ago when I was there on business. Since then, I've usually watched the RD coverage on CBC. Much respect for all the UK and allied forces.

  2. I'm not a religious man but I still tune into the BBC for the Rememberance Sunday event at the Cenotaph. I went to a small local service in Walton-on-the-Naze a few years ago and it was very moving indeed.

I guess the fact that our soldiers are still fighting and dying in far off lands brings it home just how relevent this act of National rememberance still is. Politics aside, their bravery and sacrifice should be honoured.

Thank you for leaving a comment. I always try to reply as soon as I can, so why not pop back later and continue the conversation. In the meantime, keep rolling high!
