T34/85's in the Desert

When I decided to try out 6mm micro armour I bought several sets of tanks just to paint as a test. These included the Tiger I's I featured here a while back. But buying them on their own just didn't seem right. They needed an opponent, even if this was just a painting test. I hadn't decided at that point that I wanted to play a North Africa campaign otherwise I could have bought the first elements of my forces there and them. Instead I bought a couple of packs of T34/85's purely because I like this tank and because... oh who am I kidding?!? This is just a classic example of Shiney-bloody-itus getting the better of me at a show!

I couldn't leave them unpainted so here is a totally historically inaccurate paint job of three T34/85's in the Libyan Desert!

Sometimes I do wonder what the hell is going through my head when I'm buying models.

  1. Makes for a nice 'what if' setting :)

  2. You could expand your desert gaming to include 1956 and play Suez and Arab-Israelis. Brits, French, Isaraelis and Eqyptians using same scenery etc...

  4. 6mm T-34's are so easy to paint. Which is why I now have about 200 of them!

  5. DOn't rock the boat, just go with the lead flow. I'm sure there's a plausible scenario for captured T-34's to have been rushed to Tunisia and ... oh hell they're still nice toys!

  6. HI Lee I am following this project with much interest, as I already have 6mm desert terrain. This could be a very quick project for me. I shall await with much interest your next installment.

  7. Great looking tanks, we all fall prey to it at some point.

  9. Hellos from a loooong time blog lurker!

Really like the idea of 6mm! Planning on starting a "what if" 2018 campaign with NATO vs PLA if I manage to get my local group into it.

Definitely the scale I prefer -realistic engagements distance and the oppurtunity to field full batallions.

Still deciding between FFT3 and Battlegroup 2009 as rules.

    1. Good to hear from you.

The more I look into 6mm the better it gets. I'll still be playing and painting other scales too but micro armour is definitely here to stay.

    2. Thanks. I should have said that I used to play FoW as well (usually PzGrens), decided to give a look at other scales and rules when my itch for a modern setting came prepotently out, and so I found micro.

As I said, what sold me was the distances mainly, first time a artillery unit get used (or a aristrike) you'll see the difference!

      Happy gaming!
