Pictures from Military Odyssey 2011

As previously mentioned I was at Military Odyssey in Kent last Saturday. I shot a lot of pictures despite of the changeable (often wet) weather. This show continues to attract a wide variety of reenactors and traders although I did think numbers were down a bit this year. There seems to be an inexhaustible supply of WWII memorabilia on sale and new stuff is constantly coming into circulation. One of the things I like most about these shows is that its like wandering through a museum where you get to handle the artefacts and examine them up close!

Anyway I hope you enjoy the pictures and as usual if you see any that I have captioned incorrectly please let me know and I will make the necessary correction.

  2. Wow, what a show. Did Ray get the Panzerfaust?

  3. Braxen - Its a Canon EOS 500. I used two lenses during the day, an 18-55mm lens for close ups and general scenes and a Sigma 70-300mm for long shots, aircraft etc.

Mike - Ray collects mostly American and British stuff. I was trying to work out how I could justify the $175 purchase to my wife... unfortunately I couldn't.

  5. Good span of photos. Would have been very interesting. Sure that's not a PzIII in the early photo(s?) of tank alone?

  6. Adelaide... I think your right (sorta). According to my books the only Panzer III with five large road wheels was the early Panzer III Ausf A. Later versions (and the Pzr IV) used three paired sets of smaller wheels. However all the pictures of the Ausf A have two not three return rollers. The reason for this discrepancy is that I think this vehicle is actually a replica!

I'm still investigating and will post more info when I'm sure of what I have found. Its a pity that none of the owners of the tank were around to talk to. There was also no information available to inform the viewing public, which I think is an opportunity lost.

  7. I'm not speaking from a technical viewpoint (I would never have thought of *counting* the wheels). I think it was the general shape of the vehichle, it's lack of 'squatness' that made me think PzIII. Now you mention it, though, the vehicle in the photo has begun begun to look kinda weird to me. I'll keep my eye open over next few days and see what turns up...
