My ability to fail a crucial morale check or a lose a supposedly unlosable melee has become legendary. Dice are supposed to be randomizers that will give a range of results... But not for me. It's recognised that I consistently underperform when a dice roll is called for, so much so it has become a running joke. Friday's episode of The Quarantined Wargamer I discuss the desperation that a Dice Curse can produce in gamers, and give a few real-world examples of when the dice have let me down.
As usual, I would ask that if you enjoyed the video you hit the Like button, consider subscribing to my Channel and join the conversation by leaving your stories in the comments section. Next week I'll be discussing the importance of taking notes or keeping a painting diary. Until then, stay safe and keep rolling high!
In a recent DBA game my opponent 6:1 me leaving a hole in my line. No problem..reserves to fill the gap. I then threw 5 ones in a row for movement.ReplyDelete
Ouch. The dice definitely had it in for you in that game.Delete
Welcome to the Club! My dice are so bad that no one in my club will use a dice that I have touched! I am thinking seriously of having my opponents roll my dice for me! Example: An old set of rules - Column, Line $ square that was the rage in the US in the 1960s rolls 2 dice for morale under various circumstances. Something like the British Guard require Snake Eyes to retreat!. In a play of Quatre Bras, I dice for the two Guard units to come on the table! Yup! 2 sets of snake eyes, they retreat off table and are never a factor in the battle! 88 figures that I spent a month one ran from their first battle!ReplyDelete
One of the sure signs of a dice curse is that the dice perform increasingly poorly the more effort you put into painting the figures in question. Its a rule of thumb that is so consistent its almost a law.Delete
I've not been so unlucky, touch wood. But you recently won the 6 mm Napoleonic game so it's swings and roundabouts. Do try wearing gloves and let us know how you get on.ReplyDelete
I have a nice pair of leather riggers gloves I could use. Hopefully they will be thick enough to insulate my dice from my curse?Delete
I can vouch for Lee's fragrant disregard for dice!ReplyDelete
