We'll have to get some of the lads together and have a game. As a group we really enjoyed the TV series and bought into the game as a result, although some in our group (not me) got a little carried away chasing those rare cards. Serious amounts of money was spent making the 'perfect deck' and not everyone could compete under those circumstances. AGOT seems a lot better but I don't have anything recent to compare it against. All I know is we gave it a go and will almost certainly play it again as we all seemed to enjoy it. AGOT was lacking clarity, IMHO.

I think the best part about AGOT was the multi-player capacity and the fact that it handled three-players without a blush. Most other card games simply cannot do that.Skihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07664654852295234357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1298399641711237003.post-57522259870633077752013-07-10T12:41:17.503+01:002013-07-10T12:41:17.503+01:00It was written as a tie-in to the success of the b...It was written as a tie-in to the success of the books but as the first edition of the game was published before the HBO series I'm not sure I'd write it off purely as a cynical 'cash grab'. For a start I think the game play is detailed enough to make every game exciting, unpredictable and different while being easy enough that outsiders like me can learn it quickly. Top-Trumps it's not.

Secondly, I was never a fan of the old style random-pick CCG's because that business model seemed geared towards the obsessive-compulsive gamer who could easily waste huge sums of money chasing that one elusive rare card. All CCG's are an expensive habit to maintain but at least with this set there are defined limits to potential outlay. It's still bloody expensive, but its not a bottomless pit!

Check out the forums on boardgamegeek.com for more information and some alternative reviews. I thought the game was a poorly written cash grab - it seemed like there was a lot of gray area up for debate. A thorough FAQ would be required for me to give this game another glance.Skihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07664654852295234357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1298399641711237003.post-26128732230753230122013-07-10T09:10:57.761+01:002013-07-10T09:10:57.761+01:00I enjoyed it but like I said its best played with ...I enjoyed it but like I said its best played with a group of three or four. Also Dave had bought a lot of the expansion packs with the core box (I think he go the lot on eBay) so we had much bigger decks to play with than are in the basic set.
