Patience of a Wargamer

I had an email earlier in the week from the company I am buying my Afrika Korps 6mm stuff from. I won't name them just yet because my feelings on the issue are a little undecided at the moment, but it goes without saying I would have liked to have had my figures by now. I'm glad the company concerned have communicated their stock problem to me although I do feel they could have done so a bit quicker (seven days after I placed the order online). Plus their website was showing stock available when it clearly wasn't so they have some issues they need to resolve there.

Finished bases in their magnetised box
But on the plus side their email to me seemed genuine and apologetic and they gave me the option of cancelling or putting the items on back order. After a further email exchange they also gave me an ETA for the arrival of their new stock so I could make an informed decision about what to do.

A lot is now riding on how long I actually have to wait, the accuracy of the order when it arrives and of course the condition of the models I receive. I'm being very cautious about all this because I am conscious of the fact that I am breaking into a new scale and pretty much everything is a learning curve at the moment.

So while I sit, wait and metaphorically twiddle-my-thumbs I'm trying to keep busy. I've got a veritable production line for desert bases going on at the moment. Once I have painted my first batch of tanks they can simply be glue onto the prepped bases, given a finishing spray of varnish and they'll be good to go. Of course I need the models to arrive before any of this can happen. Sigh...You'd think after all these years of painting and gaming I would be better at this patience malarkey.

  1. You could do Alt-WW2 and the DAK have fitted stealth cloaks to their AFV's... ;-)

Seriously looking forward to seeing this project develop, used to play a lot of 6mm and the itch to do so again is itching!

  3. It's never easy waiting for things. I am lucky that I have several projects on the go at one time so always have a backlog of things I want/need to get finished. Maybe If I focused more on one project at a time I would get them finished..... but the waiting would drive me more insane than I am now. Keep calm and twiddle your thumbs!

    1. I do have a few other things to be getting on with, but this is the project that is exciting my imagination at the moment and I want to get on with it.

  4. I think we've become a little spoilt... remember the days when we were expected to wait up to 28 days for delivery?

It is frustrating though, especially when some companies deliver within a week. The bases are looking good though.

    1. I do have to remind myself that this isn't Amazon or one of those other internet giants that can offer uber fast free delivery. This is a smallish games company with a good reputation but lacking the massive resources of the big boys. But by the same measure I have used other small scale games companies that have managed to fulfil my orders quickly which begs the question; if they can manage it...

  5. Once I was waiting about a year for a figure carrying case!!! I was unlucky, because the director of the company got seriously ill. The new finally accepted all the previous orders but not as the first priority of the firm! If you compare it to this, your seven days are nothing! Be positive and patient, your order will come soon!
    Nice bases by the way!

  6. Russ in our group has had several issues with online retailers recently - mainly scenery related where all kinds of excuses have been provided to cover non-delivery. There is no excuse from my point of view. Get your product to your customer as quick as you can or tell them why you can't. Wargaming seems to be well behind the rest of the world in terms of customer service.

Thank you for leaving a comment. I always try to reply as soon as I can, so why not pop back later and continue the conversation. In the meantime, keep rolling high!
